Wooden to Steel upgrade path, Coin costs, DPS breakpoints, and how code skins fit the combat ladder.

Rods Tier List

Your rod is the backbone of Fishing Master combat fishing. Every click scales with rod power; skills from Skill Master and auras from Aura Master amplify what the rod already provides. Buying the wrong upgrade — or skipping an upgrade to chase a cosmetic — stalls you on Starter, Junk, and Fossil long after you should be contesting Volcano weather windows. This rods tier list ranks the main progression sticks and the popular code skins so you know where Coins should go first.

Cross-link this page with the Tier List Hub, Skills, Auras, and Codes. Jungle unlocks around 40k Coins, so the mid-ladder decisions below directly gate that island.

How we rank rods

  1. Baseline DPS for click combat before skills.
  2. Coin efficiency — damage gained per Coin spent.
  3. Island readiness — whether the rod can handle the next zone’s HP pools.
  4. Skill attach value — higher rods deserve scarce books because removals destroy those books.
  5. Cosmetic versus power — skins can look better without replacing Steel-tier numbers.

Tier chart

TierRod / SkinApprox. cost or sourceApprox. DPS / note
SSteelLate purchase~1.35k DPS — end-game baseline
AGoldenJungle breakpoint~722 DPS — unlocks serious mid-late clears
BIron~12k Coins~542 DPS — first “real” combat rod
CStone~3k CoinsEarly power spike off Wooden
DWoodenStarterTutorial baseline
FlexCelestial BowCode UPD1FMExclusive skin — equip for style, verify stats after patches

“Flex” means showcase-first unless a patch grants competitive combat stats. Always compare the skin’s live numbers to Iron/Golden/Steel before treating it as a progression skip.

Progression rods in detail

Wooden (D tier)

Everyone starts here. Wooden teaches the click loop and the white HP line finish. It is not a place to invest Perfect True Fishing Art or Rod Gate-Open. Clear tutorial objectives, sell fish, and leave.

Goal: Earn ~3k Coins for Stone as fast as Daily Quests and early sells allow. Redeem codes immediately so free skills and auras accelerate the exit.

Stone (~3k Coins, C tier)

Stone is the first meaningful upgrade. Click damage jumps enough that Junk and Fossil stops feeling sticky. It is still a temporary home. Attach only expendable B-tier skills if you must; keep S-tier books for Iron+.

Goal: Push toward Iron at ~12k. Pair with Coin or Lucky auras if you own them from 2MVISITS.

Iron (~12k Coins, ~542 DPS, B tier)

Iron is the first rod that feels like combat fishing instead of a tutorial stick. ~542 DPS supports Volcano entry and makes skill timings matter. This is the earliest rod where attaching Rod Gate-Open or Perfect True Fishing Art can be justified if you will stay on Iron for a long Coin grind toward Jungle’s ~40k unlock.

Goal: Farm Coins with 2x Fish Sell Price if you buy one pass. Do not leap to cosmetics before Golden planning.

Golden (Jungle tier, ~722 DPS, A tier)

Golden aligns with Jungle power expectations. ~722 DPS opens cleaner elite clears and better boss attempts. When you move from Iron to Golden, remember that unattaching skills destroys books — bring replacement copies or accept the loss.

Goal: Stabilize Jungle, then save toward Steel while using weather windows (~30 min spawn / ~10 min duration) for burst income.

Steel (~1.35k DPS, S tier)

Steel is the current progression crown for practical DPS. At roughly 1.35k, click damage alone reshapes BN Island and high-end bosses. Load your best Skill Master row here: Perfect True Fishing Art, Rod Gate-Open, and A-tier burst such as Burn the Boats or Five Hooks Combine into One. Combat auras (Shadow Soldier, Frost) belong on this setup during events.

Goal: Maintain Steel as your damage stick; use skins for lobby flex if their combat stats do not exceed Steel.

Code skins: Celestial Bow and Blossom Guitar

Celestial Bow (UPD1FM)

Celestial Bow arrives from the UPD1 code drop. It is one of the best-looking exclusives in Fishing Master and a must-redeem on the Codes Hub. For tier purposes we label it Flex: wear it for prestige, screenshots, and hub presence. Only promote it above Golden/Steel in your personal ranking if in-game DPS tooltips beat those rods after a patch.

Blossom Guitar (LOVE10KCCU)

Blossom Guitar celebrates the LOVE10KCCU milestone. Same guidance as Celestial Bow — redeem instantly, enjoy the skin, and keep climbing Wooden → Steel for raw combat power. Owning both skins does not replace Coin sinks into Golden and Steel.

Group exclusive skin

Joining the Fishing Master Community group can grant another exclusive rod skin. Treat group skins like code skins: valuable cosmetics, progression-neutral unless stats say otherwise. Combine group join with Discord (https://discord.com/invite/AjEuF49e9G) for drop news.

Coin route that actually works

  1. Wooden starter sells + Daily Quests.
  2. Stone at ~3k.
  3. Iron at ~12k with ~542 DPS.
  4. Continue toward Jungle unlock ~40k while holding Iron.
  5. Golden (~722) for Jungle credibility.
  6. Steel (~1.35k) for BN Island and late bosses.
  7. Sprinkle code skins anytime after redeem — they do not require a Coin purchase.

Currencies are Coins/Money and Gems. Spend Coins on this ladder before vanity Aura Master rerolls. Gamepass priority remains 2x Fish Sell Price first, then Fast Travel, 2x Boss Loot, and Auto Fishing — sell price multiplies every fish your rod helps you land.

Rods and skill attach strategy

Island readiness cheat sheet

  • Starter — Wooden fine; rush Stone.
  • Junk / Fossil — Stone to Iron.
  • Volcano — Iron minimum comfort; skills matter.
  • Jungle (~40k) — Golden recommended.
  • BN Island — Steel + S-tier skills + combat auras.

Units content and bosses punish under-leveled rods harder than open-world fish. If boss timers feel impossible, check rod tier before blaming Skill Master RNG.

Common mistakes

  • Attaching Perfect True Fishing Art on Wooden, then destroying it on the first upgrade.
  • Buying Fast Travel before 2x Fish Sell Price while still on Stone.
  • Assuming Celestial Bow automatically beats Steel.
  • Ignoring weather windows that could fund the next rod in one good session.
  • Using scripts to fake Steel clears — ban risk covered on the Scripts Hub.

Final recommendation

Follow the Coin ladder without shame: Wooden → Stone → Iron → Golden → Steel. Redeem UPD1FM and LOVE10KCCU for Celestial Bow and Blossom Guitar, join the group for extra skin odds, and park your best skills only on rods you will keep. That is how rod tiers translate into real Fishing Master progress — not lobby fashion alone.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What is the best rod in Fishing Master?

Steel is the S-tier progression rod at roughly 1.35k DPS. Code skins like Celestial Bow and Blossom Guitar are premium cosmetics unless their live stats exceed Steel.

How much does Iron cost and what DPS does it have?

Iron costs about 12k Coins and sits near 542 DPS. It is the first major combat breakpoint after Stone (~3k).

When should I buy Golden?

Target Golden as you approach or enter Jungle, which unlocks around 40k Coins. Golden's ~722 DPS matches that island's expectations better than Iron.

Are Celestial Bow and Blossom Guitar worth redeeming?

Yes. Redeem UPD1FM and LOVE10KCCU for the exclusive skins. Keep upgrading the Wooden-to-Steel ladder for combat power.

Should I put skills on Stone?

Only temporary or low-value books. Skill books are destroyed when removed, so save S-tier skills for Iron, Golden, or Steel.

Which gamepass helps rod upgrades most?

2x Fish Sell Price is the best pass for funding Stone, Iron, Golden, and Steel. Fast Travel, 2x Boss Loot, and Auto Fishing come after.
